Charles Rowland's father was a violent and abusive man who would often destroy personal objects when he was angry. If that didn't work, he would beat his wife and son. Charles always tried his best to please his father, but nothing he did was ever good enough.
After Charles passed away in 1990, his spirit would check in on both his mother and father to ensure that he wasn't hurting her. Because he was unable to properly process the pain and trauma that his dad had inflicted on him, Charles had intense anger which he concealed behind his cheerful and upbeat demeanor. He refused to discuss it with Edwin. During the Devlin Case, his trauma caused him to get temporarily stuck in a Stone Tape Loop when he attempted to disarm Brandon Devlin, only to be cut down with an axe.
With the support of Crystal Palace, Niko Sasaki, and Edwin Payne, Charles began to speak more about his abuse, which helped him make peace and accept that he was never the problem in the relationship with his father.
