Ken Wilson - Hellblazer

Ken Wilson served as a private in The Manchester Fusiliers during World War One.

On July 1st, 1916, he was wounded in a shell attack that severed his legs. He called for help from his commanding officer, Sergeant Fletcher, and was aided by his friend Lance Corporal William Constantine.

While Constantine went to get water for Wilson, he was attacked by The King of the Vampires, who drained him of his blood.

William Constantine - Hellblazer

William "Bill" Constantine, grandfather of John Constantine, served in the First World War as a Lance Corporal in The Manchester Fusiliers. He was married to Alice and had a son named Thomas. Unlike other members of his family, he was not involved in occult practices.

On July 1st, 1916, during the Battle of the Somme, William was murdered by The King of Vampires, who slit his throat. In an attempt to save his friend, Private Ken Wilson, William stabbed the vampire with his bayonet but was ultimately killed.

Years later, John Constantine avenged his grandfather by weakening the vampire with his blood, tainted by the demon Nergal. He then dragged the vampire into the sunlight, causing him to burn to death.

Davy - Hellblazer

Originating from Sheffield, Davy was a young college graduate living on the streets of London. Unable to secure employment or housing, he turned to sex work to make ends meet.

Encountering John Constantine in an alley while looking for somewhere to sleep, Davy initially clashed with the Scouse Warlock, who refused to share his make-shift accommodation. After some persuading, the elder man relented.

Going out in search of clients that evening, he had sex within a man he met on Tottenham Court Road. However, feeling threatened by the man's dog, Davy fled without receiving payment.

Returning to John empty-handed, the two men shared a conversation and a bottle of beer, finding solace in each other's company. They fell asleep together for warmth, unaware of the danger lurking nearby.

While they slept, Davy was bitten by The King of Vampires, an old adversary of John Constantine. Succumbing to the injury, Davy died in agony, leaving John devastated. The vampire taunted John about Davy's death, claiming he had HIV and was going to die anyway, provoking John into a vengeful rage.

Upon the discovery of Davy's body by the police, derogatory remarks were made regarding his sexuality and profession, further enraging John. His attempt to confront the officers led to his own brutal assault.

Drake - Batman: Wayne Family Adventures

A former alias used by Tim Drake during his career as a costumed vigilante, Drake was only a temporary mantle, before permanently taking on the identity of Red Robin.

Bat Cow - Batman: Wayne Family Adventures

Saved from a Leviathan owned slaughterhouse while on a mission, Damian Wayne agreed to help care for the dairy cow, providing her with a safe and loving home at Wayne Manor. Named Bat Cow, because of the cowl-shaped markings on her face, she was Gotham’s premier (and only) crime-fighting bovine. It was after her rescue mission that prompted Damian to go vegetarian.

She found friendship in Alfred Pennyworth. She also got on well with Damian's fellow pets Ace, Alfred, Titus, and Goliath

One afternoon, after escaping from the shed, Bat Cow and Alfred strolled around the grounds and the house. Managing to avoid detection, she returned before anyone discovered she was missing.

Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, found her to be perfection while she was in Gotham visiting Bruce at Wayne Manor.

Alfred - Batman: Wayne Family Adventures

A young stray kitten taken in by Damian Wayne, Alfred joined his ever-growing menagerie, staying with him at Wayne Manor.
Adored by his new owners, he fitted in well with his fellow pets, Titus, Bat Cow, Ace, and Goliath

While visiting the Manor, Diana Prince took a liking to him, remarking he was just as handsome as his namesake, Alfred Pennyworth.

David Cain - Batman: Wayne Family Adventures

Considered one of the world's finest assassins, David Cain was a skilled fighter, training Bruce Wayne during his global travels; Wayne would use his teachings to become the vigilante, Batman.

Years later he fathered his daughter Cassandra Cain, raising her to become a living weapon. Refusing to teach her how to speak, he instead taught her how to read an opponent's body language, making her a near-perfect, lethal combatant.

Despite her hesitation, David would push her to kill opponents, scolding her for any displays of kindness or mercy.

This harsh training would eventually alienate her, leading to Cassandra leaving his care and joining the Bat Family as - originally Batgirl, then Black Bat - Orphan.

Cullen Row - Batman: Wayne Family Adventures

The younger brother of Harper Row, aka Bluebird, Cullen Row lived with his sister in the Narrows after she obtained emancipation from their violent and alcoholic father.

Growing up scared and abused, Harper would always look out for him, protecting him whenever she could. Once he was old enough, she taught him some basic self-defence training, allowing him to defend himself should he need to.

These lessons boosted his confidence, allowing him to feel safe enough to be open and honest about his sexuality.

When Harper was having a crisis in confidence about her role as Bluebird, Cullen candidly suggested that she was stretching herself too thin. Pointing out that she no longer needed to rely on just herself, since she had many friends and allies supporting her, he went on to encourage her to make small changes that would help make the residents of the Narrows feel safer, empowering them as she had done with him. This conversation inspired Harper, with help from Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain, to start her own free self-defence class in the local community hub.

Vigilante Bingo - Transcripts

Nightwing: Why'd you call us here, Tim?

Red Robin: Duke just hit a big milestone in Vigilante Bingo!

Nightwing: Oh yeah? What'd he get?

Red Robin: Send a super-villain back to Arkham by yourself!

Orphan: Nice.

Signal: Sorry, what's Vigilante Bingo?

Nightwing: It's just a little game we play.

Signal: What else do you guys keep score about?

Robin: Raise your hand if you've ever started your own superhero team.

Red Robin: Me too! Raise your hand if you've ever changed up your hero name.

Nightwing: Robin and Nightwing.

Orphan: Batgirl, Black Bat, and Orphan.

Red Hood: Robin and Red Hood.

Red Robin: Robin, Drake and Red Robin.

Orphan: Trained by assassins?

Signal: Well, that's not concerning.

Red Robin: I thought you trained with Deathstroke, Dick?

Nightwing: I have no idea what you're talking about.

Red Hood: Raise your hand if you've ever been murdered and come back to life.

Orphan: Me.

Nightwing: Are we counting the thing with the Crime Syndicate? I can never remember.

Red Hood: No.

Red Robin: I say yes.

Signal: Are you guys for real?

Red Hood: Happens more than you'd think.

Signal: Not sure I want to play this game anymore.

Nightwing: There are fun ones too!

Red Robin: Ooh, like--raise your hand if you've pulled a prank on Batman in the field.

Robin: Only because I was made an accomplice by Grayson. Exchanging father's smoke bombs for glitter bombs was idiotic.

Signal: Now that's a story I want to hear.

"Delores Winters" - Young Justice: The Comic

A victim of the cruel scientist Ultra-Humanite, Delores Winters was murdered by the fiend. He cut open her head, extracted her brain and replaced it with his own, before finally stealing her identity and living her life as if it were his.

In 2008, after years of misuse, her body was finally laid to rest when Ultra-Humanite decided to use an ape as his next host, allowing him to have considerably more strength, stamina, and dexterity than any human ever could.

Tolifhar - Young Justice: The Comic

An albino gorilla who resided in the jungles of Bwunda, Tolifhar (1994-2008) lived a peaceful life with his troupe, fathering a son he named Nzame.

When two notorious scientists, working for The Light, arrived in Bwunda to conduct experiments on the local gorilla population, he was the first to be captured - by the League of Shadows - and experimented upon.

The scientists subjected Tolifhar to inhumane experiments, including the removal of his brain and its replacement with one of their own. This process resulted in the deaths of both the ape and the body of Delores Winters - the aged female scientist, who was as much a victim as Tolifhar himself, having had her own brain removed and her body hijacked by the mad scientist, The Ultra-Humanite years ago.

Surviving the experiment, Ultra-Humaite would go on to commit atrocities, both against humanity and the apes that Tolifhar had once held dear.

Ultra-Humanite - Young Justice: The Comic

Born in 1918, the individual who would later be known as "the Ultra-Humanite" was a scientist with a fear of death and a disdain for the fragility of the human body. He harboured a deep resentment towards meta-humans due to their extraordinary abilities. Over several decades, he confronted the Justice Society of America and the All-American Squadron.

As his body aged, he kidnapped and killed Delores Winters, using her body as a vessel for his own brain. This allowed him to continue living, hidden from his numerous enemies. However, when Delores' body began to age, he sought a new host.

In 2008, he collaborated with The Light and travelled to Bwunda with another neuroscientist. There, they had unrestricted access to the local ape population for experimentation. The League of Shadows, acting as their security detail, captured an albino gorilla for them. Seeing an opportunity to transcend humanity, the Ultra-Humanite had his brain transplanted into the gorilla's body.

Following this transformation, he refocused on The Light's original objective. His successful operation inspired his colleague to store his own brain in a technologically advanced robotic container, leading to the creation of "The Brain". While the Ultra-Humanite chose organic evolution, his colleague opted for technological enhancement.

Over the next two years, they established a large compound of laboratories, mockingly named "Gorilla City". They captured entire troupes of gorillas for experimentation, subjecting them to cruel tests and enhancing their natural abilities with the chemical Kobra-Venom. To maintain control, they fitted the gorillas with Belle Reve meta-human inhibitor collars and held their offspring hostage.

In 2010, while The Brain and Monsieur Mallah conducted separate Kobra-Venom operations in Africa, the Ultra-Humanite maintained order in Gorilla City as a contingency plan. When their African lab was compromised, The Brain and Mallah returned to Bwunda, forcing the Ultra-Humanite to relinquish command.

When the young heroes discovered Gorilla City, Ultra-Humanite ordered the apes, led by Grodd and Solovar, to capture them. However, this decision led to their downfall when the heroes and apes united to overthrow them. Outmatched, The Brain ordered the destruction of Gorilla City, and the trio escaped in the ensuing chaos.

A victim of the Ultra-Humanite, Delores Winters was a woman whose body was hijacked by the mad scientist in his ongoing pursuit of immortality.

Charlotte - DC Showcase: Death‎

The ex-girlfriend of Vincent Omata, Charlotte devoted six years of her life to their relationship, supporting him through thick and thin. However, as the years went on, she noticed him change for the worse, becoming selfish, egotistical, and bitter as he began losing his passion and spark.

Packing up her stuff, Charlotte prepared to leave him. While he initially begged her to stay, his attitude turned hostile after she told him she could no longer watch as he destroys his life. Angered by this, he screamed at her to go, breaking off their relationship then and there and telling her not to come “crawling back” once he became a successful and rich artist.

Charlotte tearfully left, lamenting the loss of the loving, kind-hearted man she had loved and lost.

Vincent would regret how he treated her, though never got the chance to apologise to her before his passing.

Paige's Spirit - DC Showcase: Death‎

Dying at his place of work, Noonan's Bar, Gotham City, Paige's Spirit was met by Death of the Endless.

After a brief conversation, the pair went together to his afterlife.

Paige - DC Showcase: Death‎

A server at Noonan's Bar, Paige came in to work ill. Thinking he could power on through and complete his shift, he keeled over dead, much to the shock of his colleagues. He left behind a wife and kids.

The Spirit of Vincent Omata - DC Showcase: Death‎

Unaware that he was dead, Vincent's Spirit overheard a traffic accident outside. Going to investigate, he angrily yelled at two people accosting Death, threatening to call the police if they did not leave her alone. Exiting his apartment, he found the Endless waiting on the street. Thanking him for his help, although it was unnecessary, she asked if he could see his work, remembering him from the bar earlier that evening.

When asked why he had not finished any of his pieces, he sadly confessed his past trauma and mistakes, reasoning that all his creativity and passion for art had been destroyed. Death reassures him that while he may have lost his spark, he was a talented painter, proposing that she sit for him, just as he had asked of her when they met back at the bar.

As he worked, his fears of failure began to wash away, producing a painting that he considered perfect; capturing the love and joy for art he had once had.

However, his happiness turned to horror as he noticed for the first time that evening that the raindrops were suspended in midair. Time had stopped and they were locked in a single moment.

Noticing his corpse, he lamented that he had not accomplished much in life, save for the painting he had just completed. Yet as time began moving once more, he watched his apartment burn around him from the embers of a cigarette.

Vincent snapped at Death, demanding to know why she had tormented him in such a cruel fashion, however, the Endless replied that this was what was foretold in the Book of Destiny. Falling to his knees, he begged that she save the portrait, if nothing else, only to realise that she had already done it, even without him asking. Thanking her, his Spirit begins to morph and change, taking on the form of his younger self, when he was happy and full of joy.

He gladly took her hand and travelled together to his afterlife, leaving behind his inner demons and his finest creation.

Vincent Omata - DC Showcase: Death‎

Vincent Omata was a failed painter from Gotham City who aspired to become a famous artist since childhood. He faced numerous hardships, including an abusive father - who eventually threw him out of the family home - and an art professor at Gotham University who constantly demeaned and humiliated him in front of the class.

After his girlfriend of six years, Charlotte, left him due to his ego, Vincent fell into a downward spiral of drugs and alcohol, allowing his inner demons to control his life. They would regularly manifest as fiery effigies of his past tormentors that only he could see and interact with. They were hard to ignore, often lashing out at them when he was with people, leading to misunderstandings and arguments.

Making ends meet as a painter and decorator, he was hired to paint the gates at Arkham Asylum, only to be fired due to taking too much time on it. Ever the perfectionist he wanted to do the job right, which annoyed his boss.

Going to Noonan’s Bar later that evening, he met with Death of the Endless. Striking up a conversation with her, Vincent found her to be a true puzzle and asked if he could paint her portrait. Seeing his distress, she gave him his hat, telling him that she would see him around.

Returning to his apartment, drunk and penniless Vincent sat alone, contemplating how he was going to pay his rent that month. Lighting up a cigarette, he began to smoke away his problems, only to die from an overdose of heroin at 8:56 on a cold rainy evening.

When firefighters recovered Vincent’s body, they were amazed to find that everything had been destroyed in the fire that burned through his apartment, save for a single painting of Death of the Endless.

Aquaman - Batman: Wayne Family Adventures

The ruling monarch of Atlantis and King of the Seven Seas, Aquaman, aka Arthur Curry, aka King Orin, was an Atlantean-Human superhero and member of the Justice League.

After learning that Black Manta, his arch-nemesis, was in Gotham City, conducting an arms deal, he reluctantly travelled to Gotham to apprehend him. Seeking out Batman for aid, he teleported to the Batcave. While he did not find the Dark Knight himself, to his surprise and slight bemusement, he discovered that the famously isolationist Batman had a vast network of allies collaborating with him to keep the city and its people safe.

Arriving at the docks, he was disgusted and horrified by how polluted Gotham Bay was, cementing his overwhelming desire to finish his mission, leave Gotham as quickly as possible and never return.

Following Red Robin and Spoiler's lead, Aquaman and the Bat Family interrupt the weapons deal, capturing Manta and taking him into League custody.

Luke Fox - Gotham Knights

The son of Lucius Fox, Luke Fox worked at Foxteca as an engineer, contributing to the company's state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly technology, cybersecurity, and research & development. However, following a disagreement with his father, which significantly strained their relationship, he left the company to pursue other ventures.

Despite Luke's departure from Foxteca, his impact and influence on his father's work is still evident, both professionally and in his partnership with Batman and his allies. Lucius adopted his plans for his latest project, a Bat Drone capable of carrying a person quickly and safely around the city.

Demetrius Long - Gotham Knights

The band's existence was brief, eventually fading into obscurity following the tragic demise of its members.

Tuck - Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay

One of Professor Pyg's Dollotrons, Tuck was tasked with guarding Valentin's secret laboratory, while his employer was busy preparing Harvey Dent for surgery.

He was attacked by Scandal Savage, who stabbed him through the back, killing him instantly.

Maestro - Doctor Who: 2023: Season One

A child of the Toymaker, the Maestro is the living "essence of music", feeding off harmony and tune to become all-powerful. Wishing to covet, absorb and claim all songs in the universe, they sought to quell the music of the spheres and become the only living being left in existence.

After the Doctor cast salt at the edge of the universe, where the walls between realities were at their thinnest, the Toymaker and his legions were able to pass through into this universe. While some of these forces chose to remain silent, others made their presence known, sewing chaos and destruction.

Among these forces was the Maestro. While unable to fully manifest themselves in reality, they were able to send their son Harbinger to Earth. There he would search for a musical progeny clever enough to play the long-lost "Devil's Chord" and fully summon their father. This was achieved in 1925 when he manipulated the composer Timothy Drake to play the tritone.

Turning on their summoner, Maestro sucked out all the music within Drake's heart, before continuing with the rest of humanity. Their reach stretched through the whole of history, drastically altering the timeline till at last by 2024, all that was left of London was the sounds of a nuclear winter and ruin.

First discovering their influence in London, 1963, the Doctor and Ruby caught their attention after the musician played a piano on the roof of EMI Recording Studios. Recognising their laugh as the Toymaster's Giggle arpeggio, the Doctor turned and ran, terrified of the threat they posed as a member of The Pantheon

Giving chase with their cosmic tuning fork, Maestro was momentarily confused by the Doctor's Sonic screwdriver, which he used to create a wave of silence that blanketed the surrounding area. Amused by this creativity, they disrupted the silence with their fork and a puddle. However, before they can track them down, they are distracted by a distant piano player, which allows the Doctor and Ruby to escape. The piano player was not so lucky.

Following the Doctor and Ruby to the ruins of music-less London 2024, Maestro threatened the pair, revealing themself to be the Toymaker's child. Lamenting about how their "daddy" treated them over the years, they thanked the Doctor for banishing the Toymaker, since now they had no competition in their plans to bring silence to the universe. Attacking the TARDIS with musical notes, the Doctor and Ruby barely escaped with their lives, returning to 1963.

Capturing Ruby at the studio, Maestro was baffled to discover the Carol of the Bells was buried within her heart, enhanced by a power they recognised as that of "the Oldest One". Thrown off their game, Maestro was challenged to a music battle by the two time-travellers, ending with the Doctor almost figuring out the Lost Chord needed to banish them. Although he got the majority of the notes right, the last one was not the correct in the sequence, leaving him vulnerable to the Maestro's second wind.

Arrogantly toying with their victims, trapping the Doctor in a drum and Ruby in a double bass, John Lennon and Paul McCartney happened to wander past the piano, and completed the sequence based on their own musical "genius."

Dragged kicking and screaming back into the piano from which they'd first appeared, they were banished from the universe. However, before they went, Maestro snarled at the Doctor that the coming of the One Who Waits was almost upon them.

Branchwater - Young Justice: Outsiders

A meta-human trafficking ring embroiled in corporate espionage and warfare, Branchwater was the pet project of Simon Stagg, a corrupt industrialist who believed he could use known criminal meta-humans to perform illegal acts against his business competitors with complete plausible deniability.

Their covert operation had free distinct phases; acquisition, coercion and utilization.

  • Acquisition: As the name suggested, Branchwater would hire operatives to kidnap meta-human prisoners from prisoner transport, believing that it would be more profitable to use existing meta-humans than create brand new ones - setting them apart from the likes of Bedlam, in method, if not in their deplorability.
  • Coercion: Forming connections with Gotham's costumed criminal underworld, Stagg hired Jervis Tetch, aka The Mad Hatter to use an injectable nano-technology that could strip away the host's free will, turning them into loyal puppets.
  • Utilization: Now fully compliant with Stagg's agents, they would target various successful businesses, committing crimes that would damage their reputation and stocks.

After learning of the Branchwater Trafficking Ring, The Anti-Light, a coalition of hero teams led by Batman outside of Justice League jurisdiction to fight The Light on their own terms, coordinated numerous attacks against their activities.

This culminated in Stagg's arrest when GCPD stormed Stagg Industries' headquarters to find a device reportedly stolen from S.T.A.R Labs Detroit.

With no official leader, Branchwater collapsed on September 26th 2018. The various mercenaries left, while Branchwater's victims were freed from their control.

Sindella Zatara - Young Justice: Phantoms

The wife of Giovanni John Zatara (married 1995) and mother of Zatanna Zatara (bn 1996), Sindella Zatara (bn 1975 - 2008) supported her husband when he became a costumed hero and joined the Justice League, raising their daughter with the help of their family friend, Kent Nelson.

Diagnosed with cancer, she underwent treatment but did not survive.

Her death had a great impact on Giovanni, who became overly protective of Zatanna when her metagene kicked in. He did his best to stop her from following in his footsteps and joining The Team, as he did not want to lose her. Nevertheless, she defied his wishes and became a hero, much to his exasperation and pride, inheriting her mother's stubbornness and desire to help people.

The Dollotrons - Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay

The twisted creations of Lazlo Valentin, aka Professor Pyg, the Dollotrons were victims of the mad scientist, who he had tortured, mutilated, and lobotomised, removing their ability to think and feel pain, so that all they could do was follow orders without question or thought. He mainly used them as goons, seeing them as disposable cannon fodder.

A small group of Dollotrons helped Valentin prep Two-Face for surgery, after the former DA hired Pyg to use surgery and mind-altering chemicals to destroy his Harvey Dent persona.

They were all killed by Scandal Savage and Knockout when the latter kidnapped the surgeon.

Professor Pyg - Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay

A surgeon-for-hire based in Gotham City, Professor Pyg, aka Lazlo Valentin, was known for performing disgusting and cruel experiments on his victims. Among his creations are the Dollotrons, victims he has mutilated and lobotomised to become obedient puppets with no free will of their own, using them as his goons while on jobs. While most viewed his work as abominable, he saw himself to be an artist, performing transformative surgeries that would be remembered and celebrated for years to come.

Pyg was hired by Two-Face to help him erase Harvey Dent, reconstructing his face so that only his Two-Face persona was left, free from the moralistic half he was constantly at war with. However, before he can carry out the procedure, he is kidnapped by Scandal Savage and Knockout, who want to hire him for another surgery - to use his skills to sew the magical "Get Out of Free Card" into Vandal Savage's body, in such a way that any attempt at removing the card would result in his death and the enchantment's activation.

Scandal and Knockout kept him restrained until they were ready for him, believing that he was too dangerous to be free.

Once Pyg had completed the surgery, Vandal had him shot through the head, killing him.
