Christofer Ibrahim - Doctor Who: 2023: Season One

Colonel Christofer Ibrahim, of UNIT Squad 5, is a high-ranking officer in the British division of UNIT.

During the Giggle incident, Ibrahim led Squad 5 in extracting the Doctor and Donna Noble from the streets of London to the local UNIT HQ. At Noble's request, he arranges for Wilfred Mott to be moved to a safe location to wait out the crisis.

Once at the HQ, Ibrahim remained on the scene as the Doctor and Donna were briefed by Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, Shirley Anne Bingham and Melanie Bush about the recent global spike in violence and panic.

After Kate removes her Zeedex during a demonstration gone wrong, Ibrahim forcibly restrains the ranting Brigadier, attaching a new device to her wrist before she could become violent.

With the Galvanic Beam controlled by The Toymaker, Ibrahim and his team attempt to apprehend the celestial being. However, he is called off by the Doctor, as he is far too dangerous for them to face. After reasoning with the Master of Play failed, he watched in shock as the Doctor was gunned down.

Powerless to help, he could only stand by as the fate of the world is decided by a game of catch.

The Spirit of Malcolm DuPont - Doom Patrol: Season Three

Malcolm DuPont's spirit was trapped in a Bootstrap Paradox after he died in 1949, which prevented him from moving on to the Afterlife. He remained stuck in The Tunnel of Souls for 72 years until Rita Farr arrived and unintentionally created this time anomaly.

Reunited with his friend and lover, he noticed that she had no memory of their past relationship or time with The Sisterhood of Dada. Familiar with temporal amnesia caused by time travel, he held his tongue, realising that his words could fracture the timeline.

Cornered by the Night Nurse, Malcolm helped Farr and her friends escape The Tunnel of Souls. Although he could not land a hit on the demon, his actions gave them enough time to flee to Charon's Ferry. He was easily overpowered and punished for his insubordination.

Malcolm's last words to Rita were "Never let them see you sweat." While they did not hold significance now, these words were a powerful declaration of empowerment that, in her future - his past -  helped her find the confidence to control her meta-abilities and be true to herself.

As he was a stranger to her, Farr didn't understand the impact of Malcolm's sacrifice until after she stole Madame Rouge's time machine,  travelling back to 1917 and the beginning of the Paradox. Believing the Sisterhood of Dada was evil, thanks to the misconstrued intel from the time-displaced Laura De Mille, she went back to stop them. This action sparked the closed temporal loop and led to the rise of a more militant Sisterhood - with Farr as a teammate, - the upcoming Eternal Flagellation, and the tragedy that brought Malcolm's spirit to the Tunnel. The mask he was wearing at the time of his death fused to his face, forever altering his appearance to look like "Bendy" mid-transformation.

Charon - Doom Patrol: Season Three

A prominent figure in Greco-Roman mythology, the silent and cloaked ferryman Charon was given the crucial task of transporting the spirits of the deceased safely across the River Styx on his boat. According to legend, it was believed that the souls of the dead would be stuck in the realm of the living forever if they didn't cross the river.

Charon's boat was the only way to cross the river, and he charged a fee for his services. It was said that he would only allow the souls of those who had received a proper burial to board his boat. Once they boarded, Charon would navigate the boat across the water, and on the other side, the spirits would be greeted by The Watchers of The Tunnel of Souls.

After that, Charon would hand over his fare to Death's loyal entourage, who would ensure that the spirits completed the final part of their journey to The Afterlife.

During one of his charges, Charon had been carrying the souls of the deceased for centuries, including the spirits of Cliff Steele, Victor Stone, Rita Farr, and Kay Challis. The latter mockingly referred to him as a Jawa from the Star Wars saga.

The Night Nurse - Doom Patrol: Season Three

A feared and devoted servant of Death, The Night Nurse was the matron of The Tunnel of Souls. Alongside The Watchers, she oversaw the flow of spirits passing into the afterlife, attacking anyone who dared try to escape from her mistress’ clutches. Her faux cheerful and affable exterior hid her truly sadistic and horrifying nature, which she used to keep her charges in line.

She took particular umbrage with Edwin Paine, a former charge who managed to defy the odds and return to Earth as a ghost, escaping Hell, albeit emotionally scarred and terrified of her from years under her strict and harrowing governance.

Learning that Edwin had travelled to The Tunnel with Charles Rowland & Larry Trainer, to rescue the souls of the latter’s recently deceased teammates, The Night Nurse confronted the trio personally. Mocking their impassioned declarations of defiance, she easily overpowered Rowland with her telekinesis, forcing the group to retreat to the river.

Preparing to give chase, she was momentarily distracted by an unknown man fighting on behalf of Rita Farr ("Bendy" as he knew her), punishing him for his interference.

Reaching the shore with a battalion of Watchers on her heel, just as the boat began carrying them to safety, The Night Nurse could not pursue her quarry. Enraged by the defeat and Cliff Steele’s arrogant taunts, she showers them with - seemingly harmless - projectile vomit.

Although the group managed to escape back to the land of the living unscathed, The Night Nurse had the final laugh when the chemicals in her bile slowly transformed them all – except for Charles and Edwin - into zombies. However, this zombie-like state was short-lived thanks to the intervention of Willoughby Kipling, the time-displaced Laura De Mille, and the severed head of Dr Niles Caulder, aka "The Chief".

The Spirit of Charles Rowland - Doom Patrol: Season Three

The victim of severe bullying from fellow school pupils, Charles Rowland died from hypothermia after he was assaulted in a freezing cold lake.

While his spirit left his body upon his death, making the acquaintance of the embodiment of mortality herself, he did not officially crossover to the Afterlife. This resulted in him remaining on Earth for the next several decades. During this time Charles befriended Edwin Payne, the ghost of a murdered teenager freshly escaped from Hell.

Bonding over their love of detective fiction, the pair formed The Dead Boy Detective Agency, a specialist organisation dedicated to solving any and all supernatural cases presented to them, so long as they did not involve entering Death's domain. This was due to Payne and Rowland's continued attempt to avoid Death and her loyalists for as long as they could, not wishing to be separated and or/sent to Hell. While he found her to be pleasant, caring, and sexually attractive - going so far as to call her "super fit" - he understood and sympathised with Edwin's fears, having heard about the years of psychological and emotional abuse he had been subjected to at the hands of her trusted enforcer, The Night Nurse.

Specialising in the occult, Charles collected various mystical weapons, costumes, and artefacts, which he carried in his rucksack in case of emergencies. Among these were a spade and a baseball bat, employing them for self-defence against any demons or paranormal creatures they came across.

Meeting the medium Crystal Palace while on a case, they helped the young psychic exercise the demon, David, from her body. With no memories of her family and nowhere else to go, he welcomed her into the agency as the living face of the company. The three became best friends, acting more like a dysfunctional family than colleagues. Charles was very overprotective of both Edwin and Crystal. This manifested itself in lots of different ways, such as preferring the latter to remain outside whenever a crime scene was considered too dangerous for someone alive. However this annoyed Palace as she found it to be unnecessary and patronising. He would also look out for her when Payne would often - yet unintentionally - make rude, insensitive, and dismissive comments about her past traumas with David.

In 2021, while working on a case in London, he is delighted by the sudden arrival of his old friend Danny, now in the form of an ambulance. Excited to see them again after so long and intrigued by their proposal, he persuaded the group to go with Danny to Covington, Ohio.

Despite a catastrophic introduction to Negative Man (Larry Trainer) and Dorothy Spinner, who had overheard both him and Edwin - not used to being seen or heard by mortals - making judgmental comments about them, the two agreed to hire the agency to help find and resurrect their fallen family.

Concluding that Farr, Steele, Challis, and Stone had not yet passed over to the Afterlife and were in fact still being processed in The Tunnel of Souls, Rowland agreed with Payne that they should leave the manor. However, after some protests from Palace, he finally relented, deciding to aid them in their rescue mission.

Accompanied by an astral projecting Larry, Rowland, Trainer, and Payne travelled the long journey to the Afterlife. Despite his opposition, he was forced to watch in distress as his friend opened the portal to the land of the dead, using his own pain and suffering as payment.

Coming across the River Styx, Charles was horrified by the lake, reminiscing back to the day of his death. While this was going on, he was oblivious to a conversation that Trainer and Payne were having with one another about the latter's repressed romantic feelings for his "mate" and partner. Building the confidence necessary for the voyage, they proceeded to board Charon's Ferry and crossover to their destination.

Inspired by his surroundings of an American Afterlife, he decided to use the baseball bat during his confrontation with The Night Nurse, vowing that he would not let the demonic matron touch or harm Edwin again. Striking her with the weapon, all he managed to do was force her to reveal her true form, causing the enforcer to laugh mockingly at his efforts. Thrown backwards by her telekinetic powers, he yelled at the others to make their way towards the exit. However, before she can hurt him further, they are saved by the arrival of the spirit of Malcolm DuPont, who willingly gave up his life to ensure that his future - past in his case - friend and lover "Bendy" (Rita) could escape.

In a last-ditch effort to stop her progress, Charles covered their flight with a smoke bomb, allowing them to get to the safety of Charon's Ferry.

Returning to the mortal plane, he is happily reunited with Crystal. Agreeing to let Dorothy join the team, after seeing how well Spinner and Palace got on, the quartet said their farewells to Larry, Vic, Rita, Jane, and Cliff. As they left the mansion, he joked about Larry and Edwin's similarities, remarking that he could understand why they had become friends, sharing numerous personality traits: severe, moody, and pessimistic.

The next day, while Rita, Cliff, Larry, Jane, and Vic were transformed into zombies, infected by a virus in the Night Nurse's vomit they were doused in during their escape, Charles and Edwin remained unaffected. With no organic body to convert, they were safe from the devastating effects that befell their less fortunate companions.

The Spirit of Edwin Payne - Doom Patrol: Season Three

The victim of a cruel, barbaric, and bloody murder in 1916, Edwin Payne's spirit was processed through The Tunnel of Souls, allowing the teenager to pass on to the Afterlife. Entering Death's domain, he was sentenced - thanks to a technicality - to an eternity in Hell, under the watchful eye of The Night Nurse. Terrified of the matron and her bed checks, he spent decades trying to escape. He also grew to fear the personification of mortality herself, despite her reportedly pleasant disposition.

During these escape attempts, he kept fleeing an invisible, shrieking entity down a never-ending corridor, fearing that they would one day catch up to him. Even after finally absconding back to the mortal plane, the memory and trauma he experienced still haunted him, causing him intense physical and emotional distress.

Making the acquaintance of Charles Rowland, the two became best friends, bonding over their mutual interest in detective novels. Feeling that they had too much spare time on their hands and wishing to help people, the boys created The Dead Boy Detective Agency, where Payne used his extensive knowledge of the Afterlife and paranormal entities to aid them in cases.

Despite all the good they did over the next forty years; he still feared the day that Death would one day track them down and bring them back to the Afterlife. Because of this, he insisted on setting out clear rules for their investigations; no crossing over to the realm of the dead and no performing any action that would attract the attention of their pursuer’s followers.

As time went on, Payne began developing strong romantic feelings for his friend and partner, something that he continually repressed due to his strict upbringing and the belief that this affection was "not normal" and wrong. Struggling to even address the subject, his love and adoration manifested itself in playful teasing and sarcasm, as well as protective concern for Rowland's wellbeing, particularly in cases related to his almost debilitating phobia of water, the cause of his death.

After helping to exorcise a sadistic demon from the medium Crystal Palace, he welcomed the psychic into their ranks, forming a loving, if not dysfunctional found family unit to call his own. They would regularly argue with one another over their approach to work.

Fond of the newest addition to the team, he did his best to hide his feelings, similarly as he did with Charles, by joking that they should kill her to ensure that she was safe as the only member of the Detective Agency that could die. However, these jokes often backfired, causing her to become angry and hurt at the suggestion, much to his reproach.

In 2021, while squabbling with Palace over their latest case, they are interrupted by the arrival of Danny the Ambulance. Although hesitant to drop what they are doing mid-investigation, he agrees to go with them, moved by Rowland's insistence that Danny was someone that they could not only trust but was also great to be around.

Travelling to Niles Caulder's Mansion on the outskirts of Covington, Ohio, Edwin introduced the group to Dorothy Spinner and Negative Man (Larry Trainer), their latest clients. Despite their rocky start, having been overheard insulting the pair with rude and derogatory comments about their looks, Spinner and Trainer agreed to team up with them to help resurrect their fallen friends; Cyborg (Victor Stone), Robot Man (Cliff Steel), Crazy Jane (Kay Challis), and Elasti-Girl/Woman (Rita Farr).

Discovering that they were still being processed in the Tunnel of Souls, Edwin initially dismissed the case, reminding Crystal of their number one rule. However, after Charles and Palace protested the decision, he reluctantly relented.

Crossing over to the other side with Larry in tow, astral projecting his spirit with the aid of Crystal, he acted as a guide to the afterlife. Growing impatient with the latter's innocuous and light commentary, Payne expressed the dire nature of their situation and the need for caution. Pushed further about Death, he went on to add that she was a fearsome force and not someone to be trifled with.

Finally reaching their destination, Edwin opened a portal to the afterlife, using his memories of the corridors and the pain they induced as payment. However, he was touched by Larry's offer to use his own loss in his stead.

As Rowland geared himself up to cross the River Styx on Charon's Ferry, Trainer, seeing many similarities to his younger, closeted self, decided to have a heart-to-heart with Payne about his feelings for his friend and teammate. While he continued to deny his attraction as being anything more than platonic, he thanked Larry for his care and concern on the subject.

Rendezvousing with Steele, Challis, Stone, and Farr in The Tunnel of Souls, they were confronted by The Night Nurse as they began making their escape. Momentarily petrified by her presence, her attack on Rowland angered him so much that he fought back against Death's enforcer. Telling the demon that they were not returning to Hell anytime soon, so long as they had people still on Earth who needed their help, Edwin proudly proclaimed that he was no longer scared of her.

Thanks to the sacrifice of The Spirit of Malcolm DuPont, in an act of love and devotion to his former lover and teammate "Bendy," Payne led them all to the safety of Charon's ferry. Sheltered from any further threat, it was not long before they were all back in their own bodies on the mortal plane.

Reunited with Crystal and Dorothy, who had taken a shine to one another during the mission, he agreed to allow Spinner to join them as another member of the agency. Saying goodbye to the team, they departed the mansion, listening to Rowland's jokes that his pessimistic, severe, and moody character was like that of "Goggles" (Larry). While he batted away the snark, he could not argue that despite their initial disastrous interactions, he and Trainer had grown friendlier with their time together.

Though The Night Nurse covered him and Charles with demonic zombifying vomit, the lack of an organic body/body parts prevented them from transforming into zombies; a fate that befell the other members of the Afterlife escape party.

Zombies - Doom Patrol: Season Three

The subject of many horror films, Zombies - also known as The Walking Dead/Undead - were sentient beings reanimated in a shambling state, feasting on human brains to survive. With a keen sense of smell, they can use their heightened abilities to track down prey, so long as their brain is not concealed by magical enchantments. While most believe them to be mindless killing machines, Zombies maintain some of their intelligence and memories from their time alive, communicating with grunts and moans. However, these sounds are seldom understood by others outside their species. Unable to biologically reproduce, they can create new members of their kind by biting a host.

During his travels, Niles Caulder discovered that Zombies craved brains due to a rare biological enzyme produced. This compound, when ingested, could reverse the process, transforming them back into their original state and completely healing both internal and external injuries. Filmmakers took these findings and bastardised the facts, making them appear far more ferocious, violent, and destructive than they actually were.

While escaping from The Afterlife's Tunnel of Souls, the demonic Night Nurse puked on a group of five humans, covering them with a potent substance that caused their bodies to decay and die within twenty-four hours of getting back to the land of the living. The unofficial, bitter, and unwilling members of Caulder's Doom Patrol II were transformed into ravenous zombies, roaming the halls of Caulder's Mansion in search of the only living people left; Laura De Mille and Willoughby Kipling.

Manipulating the zombified team into following him, Kipling used them to fight Darren Jones and his army of Were-Butts, recovering Niles Caulder's severed head in the process. They would go on to feast on their dead mentor's brain, curing them once and for all, much to their disgust at what they had just done.

Although Kipling and The Doom Patrol had seemingly averted the threat, Darren Jones was bitten - either by Jane or Rita - during the skirmish, turning him into a Zombie as well.

Another Zombie, a Were-Butt, managed to survive the conflict as well. They were last seen six miles away from the town of Cloverton, Ohio, where the team were based.

The Dead Boy Detective Agency - Doom Patrol: Season Three

With a new live face for the organisation, since only a few - those with psychic powers or proximity to death, near-death or tragic accidents - could see the boys, they began charging their clients for expenses, ensuring that Palace had food and accommodation.

In 2021, at the recommendation of Danny the Ambulance, an old friend of Charles Rowland, Dorothy Spinner and Larry Trainer hired the team to help locate and resurrect their dead friends, Victor Stone, Kay Challis, Cliff Steele, and Rita Farr, who had been murdered while on vacation by an agent of The Brotherhood of Evil.

Despite their initial hesitancy to act upon their lead, the Dead Boy Detective Agency eventually decided to break their rules, travelling to The Tunnel of Souls. There they saved their targets from The Night Nurse and her Watchers, returning them safely to their mansion in Ohio.

With her father dead, Dorothy Spinner decided to join the team, hoping she could find herself on her travels. Leaving Caulder's Mansion, Trainer and the others wished them all well in their respective individual journeys: Palace’s hunt for revenge against her demon tormentor, David, Edwin's exploration of his sexuality and repressed romantic feelings for Charles, and Dorothy's search for a place to call home.

Edwin Payne - Doom Patrol: Season Three

Growing up in the UK during the late 19th Century, teenager Edwin Payne was brutally murdered in 1916.

With his soul passing through The Tunnel of Souls into the Afterlife, he made the acquaintance of Death, spending the next several decades trapped in Hell until his spirit's eventual escape to the mortal plane.

Charles Rowland - Doom Patrol: Season Three

A teenager growing up in the UK during the late 20th Century, Charles Rowland was a student at a local private school. Regularly victimised by his peers, he died from hypothermia after a group of bullies attacked him while he was bathing in a lake. Unable to reach the shore, he stood in the freezing water as they proceeded to hurl rocks at the terrified boy.

Despite dying and meeting with the personification of Death herself, his spirit did not officially pass over to the Afterlife, remaining on the mortal plane as a ghost.

Danny the Street - Doom Patrol: Season Three

The teleporting genderqueer sentient street with love in their heart for everyone, no matter who they are, Danny the Street travelled the world providing homes for outcasts and misfits that society had abused, victimised and turned their back on.

Among their residents and visitors was Charles Rowland, a bullied British teenager studying at a private school in England, who loved his time with Danny and referred to them fondly as being "aces."

Years later, despite having changed their form into that of an ambulance, Charles still recognised his friend, vouching for their character when Danny came to London in search of the Dead Boy Detective Agency.

Death - Doom Patrol: Season Three

The anthropomorphic representations of life and death itself, Death oversees and enforces the movement of spirits to their final resting place. To do this, she has hired a vast network of demons and otherworldly entities, stationing them in various checkpoints throughout the Afterlife to uphold the natural order she works tirelessly to maintain.

Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, aka The Dead Boy Detectives lived in constant fear of Death, who did not take kindly to their remaining in the Land of the Living, leading them to set up a rule in the agency's policy to decline any cases that have cause for them to cross between realms. While they reluctantly went back on this rule for Larry Trainor and Dorothy Spinner, they were wary throughout their entire time in the Afterlife, especially after invoking the wrath of The Night Nurse, the Matron of The Tunnel of Souls and one of her lieutenants.

Despite her intimidating presence and the genuine threat she poses to them, Rowland had a soft spot for Death, calling her "quite nice" and "super fit", adding that his concern mainly stemmed from those entities in her employ.

Teddy Lupus - Batman: The Animated Series: Season One

The stunt double and stand-in for the beloved actor Matthew Hagen, Teddy Lupus fell in love with Matt, starting a romantic relationship with the actor. Standing by his partner through thick and thin, he watched in despair as his boyfriend became hooked on Renuyu, following a car accident. Nevertheless, he did his best to be a supportive confidant, though this would often result in him becoming Hagen's emotional punching bag.

Trying his best to help his partner with his addiction, Teddy discreetly hid Hagen's jars of Renuyu, forcing him to only use his supply when necessary, so he would not run out. However, this act of love dramatically backfired when Hagen turned to Dagget in search of more of the drug, performing illegal acts of corporate espionage and attempted murder in exchange for his fix.

Disgusted by the demands of the corrupt C.E.O., he begged Hagen not to go through with Dagget's proposal, only to be ignored.

When Matt did not return that evening, Teddy went in search of him, starting with Dagget Industries. There he found Hagen unconscious and heavily mutated from an overdose of Renuyu, which had been force-fed to him by Germs and Raymond Bell after he was caught stealing from them. Horrified by what they had done to his partner, he dragged Matt back home to rest and recover from the traumatic ordeal. There he would continue to show him love and compassion.

Wishing to take revenge on Dagget for ruining Matt's life, he initially helped facilitate Clayface's revenge scheme. However, as the plan became more extreme, with threats to kill Roland, he finally relented. After voicing his concerns that Hagen was going too far, he was met with outrage from his partner, breaking up with him then and there.

After Clayface faked his death during a confrontation with Batman, Teddy visited the morgue, saying his final goodbye to Matt. While they had ended on bad terms, he still loved Hagen.

He was unaware that Hagen had survived and was, at that moment watching him in a new form.
