William Constantine - Hellblazer

William "Bill" Constantine, grandfather of John Constantine, served in the First World War as a Lance Corporal in The Manchester Fusiliers. He was married to Alice and had a son named Thomas. Unlike other members of his family, he was not involved in occult practices.

On July 1st, 1916, during the Battle of the Somme, William was murdered by The King of Vampires, who slit his throat. In an attempt to save his friend, Private Ken Wilson, William stabbed the vampire with his bayonet but was ultimately killed.

Years later, John Constantine avenged his grandfather by weakening the vampire with his blood, tainted by the demon Nergal. He then dragged the vampire into the sunlight, causing him to burn to death.
