One of the many demons lurking in the Doll House, The Headmaster ordered the Spirit of Simon to tear out all the pages from the arcane text - used by Simon to summon the demon Sa'al to St Hilarions back in 1916 - until there was nothing left, promising that he would let him go free when the task was done. However, as it was accustomed in Hell, these tasks were never simple and the pages would restore themselves whenever he neared the end.
Believing that he deserved this punishment - both for his part in killing Edwin and his attraction to his victim - Simon got to work, fearful that he would anger the Headmaster and face his wrath.
After Edwin showed Simon compassion and forgave him for his actions, realising that the invocation was merely a prank that went wrong and never meant to hurt him, the Headmaster's hold over the spirit broke, allowing Death of the Endless to come and take away the boy to a more peaceful and forgiving afterlife.
