The Night Nurse - Doom Patrol: Season Three

A feared and devoted servant of Death, The Night Nurse was the matron of The Tunnel of Souls. Alongside The Watchers, she oversaw the flow of spirits passing into the afterlife, attacking anyone who dared try to escape from her mistress’ clutches. Her faux cheerful and affable exterior hid her truly sadistic and horrifying nature, which she used to keep her charges in line.

She took particular umbrage with Edwin Paine, a former charge who managed to defy the odds and return to Earth as a ghost, escaping Hell, albeit emotionally scarred and terrified of her from years under her strict and harrowing governance.

Learning that Edwin had travelled to The Tunnel with Charles Rowland & Larry Trainer, to rescue the souls of the latter’s recently deceased teammates, The Night Nurse confronted the trio personally. Mocking their impassioned declarations of defiance, she easily overpowered Rowland with her telekinesis, forcing the group to retreat to the river.

Preparing to give chase, she was momentarily distracted by an unknown man fighting on behalf of Rita Farr ("Bendy" as he knew her), punishing him for his interference.

Reaching the shore with a battalion of Watchers on her heel, just as the boat began carrying them to safety, The Night Nurse could not pursue her quarry. Enraged by the defeat and Cliff Steele’s arrogant taunts, she showers them with - seemingly harmless - projectile vomit.

Although the group managed to escape back to the land of the living unscathed, The Night Nurse had the final laugh when the chemicals in her bile slowly transformed them all – except for Charles and Edwin - into zombies. However, this zombie-like state was short-lived thanks to the intervention of Willoughby Kipling, the time-displaced Laura De Mille, and the severed head of Dr Niles Caulder, aka "The Chief".
