Charon's boat was the only way to cross the river, and he charged a fee for his services. It was said that he would only allow the souls of those who had received a proper burial to board his boat. Once they boarded, Charon would navigate the boat across the water, and on the other side, the spirits would be greeted by The Watchers of The Tunnel of Souls.
After that, Charon would hand over his fare to Death's loyal entourage, who would ensure that the spirits completed the final part of their journey to The Afterlife.
During one of his charges, Charon had been carrying the souls of the deceased for centuries, including the spirits of Cliff Steele, Victor Stone, Rita Farr, and Kay Challis. The latter mockingly referred to him as a Jawa from the Star Wars saga.
