Returning to St. Hilarion's School for Boys, the place where he felt most powerful and content, Barrow relished tormenting Charles Rowland, the sole living student.
Their initial efforts were thwarted by the former headmaster, Rev. A.N. Parkinson. Undeterred, they ambushed Rowland in the kitchen, where Barrow and Cheeseman pressed their victim against a scorching stove, searing his flesh.
Unsatisfied by the resilience of their prey, Barrow left in search of other victims to torment. However, with no one else to bully, Cheeseman and Skinner turned on him, perceiving him as the weakest of the trio. Despite his pleas for mercy, his cries fell on deaf ears.
