The Mad Hatter - Young Justice: Outsiders

The alter-ego of Jervis Tetch, The Mad Hatter was a Gotham-based criminal with an obsession with the works of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. He also loved hats.

Beginning his career in 2009, at the age of fifty-one, he has gone up against Batman and his allies on numerous occasions. Each time he was arrested, he was sentenced to Arkham Asylum.

In February 2018, Tetch was released from Arkham on parole, with the only condition being that he did not wear hats. Finding this suspicious, Batman had his young team keep regular tabs on him, often tailing Tetch.

In the following months, Simon Stagg would hire The Hatter to join Branchwater, a meta-human trafficking ring, using his expertise with nanotechnology to coerce criminals into performing corporate espionage and warfare for the corrupt C.E.O. He would inject his victims with voice-sensitive nanites, before giving their Branchwater designated handler, the mercenary Cheshire, the control unit.

To maintain his cover and pretend that he had gone legit, the Hatter had one of their assets, Clayface, impersonate Tetch, allowing him to work uninterrupted. While this scheme worked for a time, it was eventually discovered by a team of young heroes, who broke Hagen's disguise and forced him to retreat to their warehouse laboratory.

Interrupted while working on their latest acquisition, The Shade, he ordered Clayface to fight the heroes, while they made their escape. He also initiated a series of bombs placed throughout the lab, covering his tracks, and destroying anything that could tie him to Branchwater and Stagg.

Following the fall of Branchwater on September 26th, The Mad Hatter went underground.
